Snakes will be drawn to our swimming pool during the summer season. For those who have a heated Lorain pool, it is also possible to see the serpent swimming in your pool during winter. Thankfully, the chemistry of your water will not be altered just because a snake is swimming on it. You simply must get them out and you can reclaim your pool to these slithering creatures. However, the process is easier said than done.
Getting the Snakes Out of your Pool
When the snakes are enjoying your Ohio pool, they will eventually end up in your skimmer. This will make it easier for you to get rid of them. Sometimes, you will retrieve a dead snake due to their prolonged exposure to the chlorine. Most of the time it will be difficult to remove them due to the distance of the coping or deck to the water surface. Here are some approaches to do this.
Using a Long Pole
In case the Lorain snake is swimming in the pool, people will usually throw a net to capture them. However, the net is not always available. In this situation, you can use a pool pole or a long stick to get rid of them. Simply placing them close to the snake will prompt them to cling on the pole. This will make it easy for you to simply lift the pole and relocate the creature to a more desirable place.
Wait for Them to End up on Skimmer
In case the Ohio snake is not interested with the long stick, or if you do not have the courage to jump on waters to frighten the snake, you will probably have to wait until you can retrieve the snake on the skimmer. However, you need to remember that the snake will probably be agitated at this point and you need to approach them with utmost care. The water on the pool is intended to flow directly to the skimmer. This allows the pool owners to remove any debris on the pool. Just turn on your pump and the snake will eventually land on your skimmer.
What if the Skimmer Basket is Damaged?
There are instances when your Ohio skimmer basket will be damaged. It may probably have a hole or a huge crack. You will need to remove the skimmer basket. Since the basket will be very close on the snake, it is recommended to use a pole with a hook to retrieve the skimmer basket. This will allow you to release the snake on other places.
This is probably the easiest method that you can use especially for those who want to do a DIY removal of Lorain snake. However, we do not recommend taking care of your problem personally if you do not know how to differentiate a venomous from a non-venomous snake. You should also allow the professionals to handle the snake if it measures more than 3 feet. Most of the accidental bites from the snake happened due to the mishandling of the creature.
